ADCET Webinar: Citizen Research Essentials - Co-designing an accessible micro-credential
Wed 18 Nov 2026 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm AEDT
Online
Event details
Meaningful involvement and leadership of people with disability are fundamental to high-quality disability research. But creating opportunities for participation requires more than an invitation. It also requires investment in accessible learning, skills development and research environments that support people with disability to contribute, influence decisions and lead.
Citizen Research Essentials is an accessible online university micro-credential co-designed by Griffith University and people with disability, with support from the National Disability Research Partnership (NDRP).
The course introduces research concepts, approaches and practical skills, supporting people with disability to build their knowledge and confidence to participate in and shape research.
For NDRP, Citizen Research Essentials is part of a broader commitment to strengthening disability research capacity. Alongside investment in disability-led research, research leadership development and support for funded teams, the course contributes to building the skills, relationships and opportunities needed for meaningful participation and leadership.
In this conversational webinar, Dr Kelsey Chapman from Griffith University and Sue Tape from NDRP will explore:
- How Citizen Research Essentials was co-designed with people with disability, and the accessibility considerations that shaped its development.
- What we've learned from delivering the course and extending access to participants nationally.
- Why NDRP has invested in research capacity strengthening, and how Citizen Research Essentials fits within this broader approach.
- How research teams, universities and disability organisations can support people with disability to use and build on their research skills.
- What accessible, inclusive research education can contribute to strengthening disability-led research.
This webinar will be an opportunity to share experiences, reflect on what they're learning and consider how capacity-strengthening initiatives can help create more inclusive research systems.
Citizen Research Essentials was recognised as a team winner at ADCET's 2026 Accessibility in Action Awards.
Audience: People with disability interested in participating in or leading research; disability-led and disability representative organisations; researchers and research teams; university staff; inclusive education and learning design professionals; and organisations working to strengthen disability research participation and leadership.
