Answers to Questions from the Webinar

At the start of the presentation, I'm just wondering where the picture of the human brain came from? Is this something that the student has drawn, or is this taken from AI, ie. if the student says Genio, I need a picture of the human brain with all the cortexes.

The illustration of the human brain in the Notes Feed was drawn by the student using the Scibble feature.The illustration can be created during the initial recording stage but creating such a detailed illustration may be best done afterward when revisiting the recording event. The Scribble tool is really useful for creating quick simple visuals such as flow charts, mini mind maps, even simple graphs or geometric representations.

The Notes Feed has an image search feature where a student can instantly insert an image found on the web. Images inserted this way cannot be annotated. However, the PowerPoint slides can also be annotated. If an image of the human brain were on the slide, text labels and highlights could be added to it. When exporting notes from the Notes Feed to a Word or Google Doc, the slide image and its annotations will also be exported to the document.

In a classroom how well would the record function pickup voice that is not close to the student device?

Many variables affect audio quality eg microphone quality, the acoustic environment, and the speaker's decibel level. Most devices now have much better microphones but they aren't noise-cancelling and will pick up every noise. Genio Notes has built in audio enhancement tools which can adjust voice pitch and playback speed, and remove background noise.

Can students download their notes out of Genio? What happens if the student no longer has access to Genio through their university? How would they get access to the notes?

Yes. Notes in the Notes Feed and the linked slides can be exported as a Word or Google Document. The exported document includes accessible style headings for navigation and screen reader usage. The bullet point and Cornell Notes templates from the new Study Notes feature  can also be exported as an accessible document.

Students can still access their Genio account for three months after losing access to replay their event recordings, add or edit notes and export these notes to a document. New events cannot be created. The exported notes do not rely on Genio. They are documents the student stores.

Can refined notes be exported to a word doc? Can they be printed directly from Genio? Thinking for open book exams.

Yes. The Notes Feed can be printed but exporting to a Word or Google document is recommended. All note entries in the exported document will include the slide headings and the slide images themselves. The exported document includes accessible style headings for navigation and screen reader usage. Students can continue to add information to this document from other sources.

Can other docs or resources be uploaded (e.g. readings, YouTube video) so students can build their notes on content other than lectures/slides?

Yes. PDF documents can be uploaded to the event recording. The OCR feature could be used to extract the text into the Notes Feed.

Students can also build notes while playing back any streaming media (including YouTube videos or recorded lectures). While viewing the video, the student can make the usual note entries and also instantly take screenshots of the video. These images are inserted into the Notes Feed and are synchronised with the audio capture.

Video can also be captured within Genio Notes. This feature is currently only available to institution wide subscriptions.

Can you please advise if those links are out to the web, or are the links to the students previous notes only, ie. does Genio link out to the web?

The Search demonstration located links within the transcripts of previous notes. Genio does not link out to the web. The only external links that can be placed into the Notes Feed are links to definitions a student may wish to record.

Is the app an additional cost to the subscription?

There is no cost for the new mobile app. It provides an alternative way to use their Genio account.
