International Journal for Students as Partners - Call for Papers

Call for Papers: Special Section on Students with Disabilities as Partners in Higher Education

Theme: "Nothing About Us Without Us”: Inclusive Learning through Partnership with Students with Disabilities

The International Journal for Students as Partners (IJSaP) is calling for proposals for a special section. They advocate for research that includes students with disabilities as collaborators, contributors, and active partners in shaping learning environments, policies, and practices rather than passive recipients of educational support. It applies to all students with disabilities regardless of type and severity.

Expanding research to include students with disabilities and co-designing studies with them, may reveal new aspects of inclusive education, remove barriers, prompt institutional change, and create a more accessible and inclusive learning environment for all.

Topics of Interest

IJSaP are inviting contributions from scholars worldwide that address various aspects of involving students with disabilities as partners in advancing inclusive research through innovation, policies, or technologies, including but not limited to:

  • Co-creation of disability inclusion policies
  • Leadership development for students with disabilities
  • Pedagogical approaches that integrate the voices and perspectives student with disabilities
  • Curriculum access and adaptation
  • Staff/Professionals preparedness and training in inclusive education practices
  • Accommodations, languages, communication, and assistive technology (Braille, sign language, assistive devices)
  • Online learning and accessible online spaces
  • Benefits for students without disabilities
  • Educational and employment opportunities
  • Institutional interdepartmental partnerships
  • Challenges and barriers to implementing effective partnerships with students with disabilities
  • Ethical considerations in partnership initiatives with students with disabilities
  • Impact assessment and outcomes of collaborations with students with disabilities
  • Future directions and opportunities for advancing student-staff partnerships in disability inclusion

Submission Guidelines

IJSaP welcome original research articles (including empirical and conceptual articles and literature reviews), case studies, reflective essays, and opinion pieces. Submissions of 300-500 word proposals are needed and should focus on the process of working in partnership, rather than outcomes of the project on which students and staff are engaged.

Submissions will undergo a rigorous peer-review process.

Submissions close: Sunday 15 November 2026
