CRADLE Seminar: Assessment Design Toolkit: Embedding inclusion and security

Event details
Since generative AI arrived, many universities have been rethinking assessment, and some are moving back towards invigilated exams and other traditional formats. That's understandable, but it risks undoing years of work that has made assessment fairer for students with disability, students in regional and remote areas, and those balancing study with work or caring responsibilities.
A team from Deakin University's Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE) has been working on this tension. With funding from an Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success (ACSES) Practitioner Resource Grant, they have developed an Assessment Design Toolkit that helps educators think about inclusion and security together when designing or redesigning assessment, rather than treating them as competing goals. The Toolkit includes guiding principles, case studies of real assessments from across the sector, and practical advice for educators.
This seminar will introduce the Toolkit and look at practical steps educators can take towards assessment that works for all students while still standing up to integrity concerns.
Speakers
Dr Nicole Crawford, Associate Professor Joanna Tai and Dr Paige Mahoney (CRADLE, Deakin University), with Sue Sharpe and Alcy Meehan (Deakin University).
