Blind and Vision Impairment: DAISY Player

Books differ from other course materials such as articles, teacher produced documents and web based text in that the amount of information is typically greater and the structure is often more complex. For this reason, many people who are blind or vision impaired benefit from using particular formats and devices when reading books.

DAISY (Digital Accessible Information SYstem) is a talking book format that is particularly good for navigating and bookmarking sections within a book. Many software packages read DAISY format but there are also hand held devices made by Plextalk available specifically for DAISY books. The Victor Reader is also a popular product that plays DAISY format as well as MP3, MP4, EPUB, and many other media formats.
