EPHEA Conference 2022: Disability Inclusion in a post-COVID world
In this presentation at the 2022 Equity Practitioners in Higher Education Australasia (EPHEA) Conference Darlene McLennan and Gabrielle O'Brien provided some guidance to equity and disability practitioners on improving disability inclusion within their institutions in a post-COVID landscape.
The presentation highlights the need for tertiary education providers to think about the way they deliver flexible and accessible learning which is inclusive, engaging, and strengths based. Noting the increased number of students with disability accessing tertiary education, providers need to ensure they have a strategic focus which reinforces disability inclusive practice which includes disability awareness training for staff, reinforces compliance obligations, encourages best practice and embeds Universal Design principles.
The presentation highlights a range of resources ADCET has developed to strengthen capacity amongst providers and provide guidance for reviewing current inclusion strategies with a Disability Inclusion Checklist.
