Universal Design vs Inclusive Design

Universal Design and Inclusive Design serve complementary roles in digital accessibility: Universal Design aims to create one solution that can be used by everyone without adaptation, whereas Inclusive Design enables customisation and adaptation to meet specific individual needs. Both are valuable philosophies, and not mutually exclusive, offering different but compatible approaches to achieving digital accessibility. Ricky Onsman, TPGI (August 2025)
