    Pathways15 Online: Sponsorship and Exhibition Opportunities

    Louisa Alessandri Memorial Fund Scholarship

    The Scholarship is intended to assist a student with a physical, vision or hearing impairment to achieve his or her career aspirations. Funds may be used for a variety of purposes, including course fees, equipment, support, interpreters, transport, etc. Applications close 30 September 2020.

    Consultations now open: Review of the Disability Standards for Education

    On 16 July 2020, public consultation commenced for the 2020 Review (the Review) of the Disability Standards for Education 2005 (the Standards). The Standards were established to ensure students with disability in Australia can access and participate in education and training on the same basis as students without disability.

    The Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment is undertaking a review of the Standards through an extensive community consultation process. The Standards are reviewed every five years to test if they are effective in achieving their objects and whether any improvements could be made.  The consultations are open until Friday, 25 September 2020.

    Equity in Higher Education Panel

    The Equity in Higher Education Panel (EHEP) is a high level strategic advisory body with a focus on student equity in higher education. The EHEP will provide strategic advice and make recommendations to the Department of Education, Skills, and Employment on strategic issues relating to improving student equity in higher education. As part of its work the EHEP will develop a National Equity in Higher Education Roadmap, a five year strategy to accelerate performance of underrepresented equity groups nationally and to raise the profile of equity best practice in the sector to embed it more effectively in universities’ missions.

    Vision Australia's Further Education Bursary 2021

    Each year, Vision Australia awards Further Education Bursaries to a select number of students who are blind or have low vision.  The bursaries provide adaptive technology to help the students fully participate and succeed in their chosen studies. Assistive technology can eliminate barriers to education and enhance access to information. It enables students to read course material, conduct research and improve their student life. Closing date: 30 September 2020.

    Audio description now on Australian free to air TV

    Australia’s blind and low vision community will finally be able to enjoy audio description on free to air TV when the service launches on ABC and SBS programming this month.

    From June 28, the ABC and SBS will both provide 14 hours of audio-described programming each week after the Federal Government announced funding for the service in late 2019.
