Search tips

If you enter two or more words in the search field, the search results will include matches for any of those words.

To optimise the search results, you can use the following operators in the search field:

  • Surround a phrase with double quotes (") to search for the whole phrase.
  • Prefix a word with + if all search results must include the word.
  • Prefix a word with - if the search results must not include the word.

Examples:

  • one two
    Search for either one or two.
  • "one two"
    Search for the whole phrase "one two" rather than the individual words one or two.
  • +one two
    All search results must include one, and will rank higher if they also contain two.
  • +one -two
    All search results must include one, but none will include two.

    Dr Ben Gauntlett commenced his term as Disability Discrimination Commissioner on May 7, 2019.  Dr Gauntlett replaces Mr Alastair McEwin who was the Disability Discrimination Commissioner since 2016.

    Shaping the future of disability policy for 2020 and beyond

    The National Disability Strategy 2010-2020 is about creating a more inclusive society that enables Australians with disability to fulfil their potential as equal citizens.

    It is also the main way Australia implements the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Australia, making sure people with disability can participate in all areas of Australian life.

    The Strategy is a shared commitment by all governments to work together to improve the lives of Australians with disability by guiding governments and other organisations to build the wellbeing of people with disability and their carers.

    MDI: Seed Funding & Community Grants

    The Melbourne Disability Institute (MDI) is committed to facilitating disability research that is interdisciplinary and can demonstrate significant impact on the well-being of people with disability, their families and carers. One of the ways in which this will achieve this is by providing funding to academics and community organisations.  There will be four streams of funding: seed funding for research, community grants, research translation (coming soon) and event support (coming soon).

    The research seed funding and community grants program are now open for application; researchers and community organisations can apply for funding to support pilot projects and community-led projects.

    MOOC: Digital Accessibility. Enabling Participation in the Information Society

    This course, developed by the University of Southampton,  will help you to understand how those with sensory, physical and cognitive impairments may be disabled by barriers encountered when using digital technologies. The course will highlight how the use of accessible and inclusive design can help overcome many of these difficulties. This course commences 9 October, 2017.
