Making Science Labs Accessible - US
Science labs can be made accessible to students with disabilities through two approaches: accommodations (reactive adjustments for specific students, such as providing Braille labels or wheelchair-accessible workstations) and universal design (proactive design choices that benefit all students, such as providing both written and verbal instructions or using adjustable-height work surfaces). By implementing universal design principles in lab climate, physical access, delivery methods, and assessment, educators can minimize barriers and reduce the need for individual accommodations while creating learning environments usable by students with diverse abilities.
