Participation Assistant - Sunraysia Institute of TAFE
SuniTAFE, one of the leading education providers in regional Victoria is seeking compassionate, motivated individuals for the Participation Assistant position in the Swan Hill Campus. As a Participation Assistant, you’ll work closely with students and our Disability Liaison team to deliver personalised support that enhances learning, engagement, and wellbeing. You’ll play a crucial role in nurturing students’ independence while ensuring they feel valued, understood, and empowered.

Responsibilities
- Liaising with the Disability Coordinator/ Advisor regarding the coordination of supports for each student.
- Honouring the students’ rights to dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
- To assist the student to build rapport with and refer to the teacher/subject expert.
- Assist the student with gathering materials and structuring assignments, and preparing for examinations.
- Encourage student independence and ownership of work.
- Provide physical assistance where necessary.
- Advise and/or recommend to the Disability Liaison Officer/ Disability Liaison Advisor/ Teaching staff of additional learning needs or support that may be required.
- Attend progress meeting with the student, Disability Liaison Officer/Advisor and teaching staff as required.
- Report any hazard/barriers observed for students with a disability in accessing TAFE facilities.
- Assist as required in projects and programs undertaken by the Disability Liaison Officer
Key Selection Criteria
- The ability to engage students in a sensitive and supportive manner is essential.
- Experience in the disability, wellbeing or counselling areas would be beneficial, but not essential.
- Demonstrated experience working with people who have a disability.
- Experience in an educational environment will be viewed highly.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and liaise with a diverse cohort of individuals
- Needs and advice on ongoing support needs.
