Senior Adviser, AccessAbility - Swinburne University of Technology
Employment information: Full time, fixed term 12-month role; Location: Hawthorn campus; $103,556 - $111,669 salary + 17% super
This position is responsible for assessing and identifying the support needs of students with a wide range of disabilities, medical or mental health conditions, as well as those who are primary carers for individuals with a disability. The aim is to ensure students can participate equitably in their academic programs. The role involves working closely with students and collaborating with academic, teaching, and professional staff across the university, including teams from Vocational and Higher Education, Swinburne College, and Swinburne Online.
In addition to supporting students, the position provides operational support and expert guidance to a team of Advisers within AccessAbility services in relation to complex cases and data management. The role contributes to the development, implementation, and interpretation of university policies and procedures related to learning, teaching, and assessment. The successful candidate will provide accurate, practical advice to both students and staff, helping to ensure accessible and inclusive education across the university
Key Accountabilities
- Significant experience working with students with disabilities, medical and/or mental health conditions, demonstrating an ability to assess their learning needs and determine reasonable adjustments to support students to succeed in their studies and to foster their independence
- Demonstrated experience in applying case management principles and practices when working with students with complex circumstances and/or conditions
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of relevant State and Commonwealth legislation pertaining to the rights of people living with disability and the responsibilities of educational institutions
- Knowledge and understanding of universal design and inclusive practice approaches as they apply to tertiary education and service provision for students with disability
Qualifications
Completion of a degree qualification in disability or allied health with at least four years subsequent experience; or extensive experience and management expertise in tertiary education; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
