AccessAbility Advisor - James Cook University
Employment information: Part-time, continuing position; HEWL 8: $108,964 - $125,126 per annum plus up to 17% superannuation
Joining a team of passionate professionals, you’ll collaborate with academic and professional staff across James Cook University to identify and implement reasonable adjustments that remove barriers to learning and student participation in activities and events. By assessing individual student needs, developing tailored support plans, and connecting students with other support services, you’ll help create a learning environment that fosters independence, confidence, and academic success.
More than just case management, this role places you at the heart of equity and inclusion - facilitating workshops and training to build awareness and capability among staff and students, while contributing your expertise to policy development and continuous service improvement.
Qualifications, skills and experience
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring qualifications in a relevant field such as occupational therapy, psychology, social work, counselling or education, along with registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency or professional registration or membership with one of the following:
- Occupational Therapy Board of Australia
- Psychology Board of Australia
- Australian Association of Social Workers
- Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors or Rehabilitation Counselling Association of Australasia
- Queensland College of Teachers.
You’ll have proven experience supporting people with diverse disabilities and health conditions, with demonstrated ability to assess, develop and evaluate reasonable adjustments and support services in accordance with legislative requirements - ideally within a tertiary education setting. Your knowledge of inclusive and universal design principles, combined with exceptional communication and organisational skills, and your ability to manage complex casework and competing priorities, will enable your success in the role.
