Experiences and challenges of students with disability in Australian universities: a scoping review

This scoping review examined recent research on students with disability in Australian universities. While enrolment among people with disability is increasing globally, they remain underrepresented, with much lower retention and completion rates.  The review identified five key themes: disability disclosure, disability support services, relationships with academic staff, reasonable adjustments, and physical environments. Findings revealed that barriers to full inclusion persist, and universities aren't fully complying with disability legislation. The researchers provided recommendations for universities, academics, and students to improve experiences for students with disability. While focused on Australia, the findings apply to other countries facing similar barriers to academic inclusion. International Journal of Inclusive Education.
