Disability Transition Officer - William Angliss Institute

Employment information: Full-time. Fixed-term position until February 2028

The Disability Transition Officer at William Angliss Institute will provide the first tier of personalised support services, improve outcomes for successful completion and preparedness for employment, and ensure a genuinely inclusive study experience.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and support to secondary students with disability and their families/carers especially to assist in understanding the difference between secondary and TAFE learning environments.
  • Work with eligible students and their families and provide information and guidance with understanding their rights regarding reasonable adjustment and the process in a TAFE context.
  • Work with students and key stakeholders to develop a Transition plan for students with disability entering the TAFE system.
  • Arrange and facilitate transition support meetings with student.
  • Build and foster collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, networks and services.
  • Work with other William Angliss Institute student support units to establish an approach for transition support.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Relevant Degree and relevant experience; or lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in technical and administrative fields; or a suitable combination of relevant qualifications and experience.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of the experiences that young people with a disability, mental health and/or medical condition may have during educational and life transitions.
  3. General awareness of, and familiarity with, the secondary school and Victorian Vocational education and Training environments, and the capacity to source specialist information from other areas within Institute to resolve concerns associated with the student’s transition.
  4. Comprehensive knowledge of Reasonable Adjustments in the context of higher education, the ability to solve problems independently, make decisions, and collaborate when necessary.
  5. Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver information, resources and training to build the capacity of others in support of people with a disability undertaking educational and life transitions.
  6. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) with the ability to provide expert and authoritative advice.
  7. Demonstrated experience in developing productive relationships with key stakeholders that fosters a co-operative and collegiate approach and ability to influence others in the provision of Access and Disability services.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and sound organisational ability, with the capacity to balance demands of simultaneous assignments and managing competing priorities.
  9. Demonstrated behaviours that align with the William Angliss Institute Values.
