Employment information: Full-time, ongoing position, Penrith campus with regular travel to other WSU campuses; HEW Level 7 $104,953 – $113,204 per annum, plus 17% Super and Leave Loading
As an Assistive Technology Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing accessibility across Western Sydney University. This position focuses on supporting students and staff with disabilities by providing expert advice, training, and coordination of assistive technologies.
You will lead initiatives to research, source, and evaluate assistive technologies, ensuring they meet user needs and improve learning experiences. Your work will involve developing training modules, delivering competency-based sessions, and maintaining technology assets to ensure seamless support.
Collaboration is key in this role. You will work closely with Disability Services, Information Technology and Digital Services (ITDS), and other internal stakeholders to integrate assistive technologies effectively. By driving innovation and fostering understanding, you will help create an inclusive environment that empowers all members of our community.
Duties
- Deliver tailored training programs for staff and students on assistive technologies.
- Maintain and manage assistive technology assets and software licenses.
- Provide expert advice to Disability Advisors and IT support teams.
- Evaluate the impact of assistive technologies and recommend improvements.
- Foster collaboration between Student Disability Services and ITDS.
About You
- Degree in IT, Social Sciences, or equivalent experience in assistive technology support.
- Proven ability to design and deliver training programs for diverse audiences.
- Up-to-date knowledge of assistive technologies and IT terminology.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with sensitivity to disability issues.
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritise tasks, and maintain professionalism.
