DDA Review Consultations Now Open

The Australian Government is reviewing the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and want to make sure it is working to protect people with disability.

Public consultation is now open

They are asking for everyone’s views to make sure all voices are heard. This includes people with disability and people who have duties under the Disability Discrimination Act, like employers, small businesses, education providers and people who provide goods and services.

About the review

The government established the review in response to recommendations made by the Disability Royal Commission.

The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (Disability Royal Commission) was one of the biggest investigations into the experiences of people with disability in Australia.

The Disability Royal Commission made 222 recommendations in its final report. 15 of these recommendations related to the Disability Discrimination Act.

The government is inviting people with disability, carers, families, kin, advocates, service providers, employers, unions, educational bodies, small businesses, legal professionals, academia and the broader community to participate and share their views.

They will use this feedback to help consider the best way to reform the Act to make sure it's fit-for-purpose.
