ADCET Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Symposium 2024

Cultivating Creativity, Connections & Confidence in the Australian Tertiary Education Sector

ADCET, in partnership with RMIT, invites you to join us on June 12, 2024, at RMIT in Melbourne for an engaging day of learning, sharing, and exploring innovative UDL practices. Immerse yourself in a dynamic symposium where like-minded educators, experts, and advocates come together to deepen their understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and strategies.

Be part of a community dedicated to creating inclusive and engaging learning environments for all. The event aims to showcase practical techniques, frameworks, and best practices for designing inclusive learning experiences. You'll also discover effective methods for measuring the impact of UDL implementation, including positive stories and their influence on student success. Explore how UDL principles can be applied beyond the traditional classroom setting to foster inclusive learning experiences and delve into strategies for designing assessments that align with UDL principles and support diverse learners. Engage in discussions on applying the principles of UDL to foster a more inclusive tertiary education experience, and investigate the intersection of artificial intelligence and UDL, exploring how emerging technologies can enhance inclusive learning environments.

Dr Thomas J. Tobin

The ADCET UDL Symposium 2024 is honoured to feature a keynote presentation by Dr. Thomas Tobin, a renowned expert in the field of Universal Design for Learning. Dr. Tobin's presentation, Scaling Up with Universal Design for Learning . . . and How to Get Colleagues to Join You will provide attendees with valuable insights and practical strategies when working across your organisation to develop inclusive and engaging learning environments.

Join us for a thought-provoking presentation that aims to challenge us to radically rethink how we approach the creation of educational materials and learning experiences. Far beyond just accommodating learners with disability, Thomas will guide us towards a broader framework and how adopting Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles can benefit all students.

Prepare to be inspired as Thomas’s keynote presentation reframes the way we think about inclusive education. Walk away with a renewed commitment to making your educational materials and practices truly inclusive, ensuring that every learner has the opportunity to succeed.

Thomas has also kindly agreed to present the closing session, where you'll have a final chance to engage with Thomas, who will reflect on the day and share practical ideas to energise, empower, and embolden you to lower barriers for access and learning when you return to your everyday context. Bring your big take-aways, questions, and connections - we'll end our day with collaboration, support, and community!

Keynote Abstract and Overview

Where

The Symposium will be held at RMIT, Melbourne, Level 4 of Building 80. 435-457 Swanston Street.

RMIT Building 80 (B80) is entered via Swanston Street Melbourne. All RMIT Buildings display their building number prominently with RMIT signage on the outside of the building. There are elevators and escalators to all levels. B80 has a funky semi industrial décor design. The lighting would generally be considered good for most people with light sensitivity.

The nearest train station is a short, two block level walk from Melbourne Central station. If approaching from Melbourne Central train station, the building is on the left-hand side of the Swanston Street. Note, there are some road works obscuring some views and pathways in Melbourne at this time. There are also trams running the length of Swanston Street with a tram stop outside B80.

Don't miss this opportunity to be part of a dynamic community dedicated to creating inclusive and engaging learning experiences. Register now and be a catalyst for positive change in the Australian tertiary education sector.

This is a dynamic event and the pages relating to this symposium will be subject to change so we encourage you to check back regularly.
