Team Leader, Equitable Learning & Disability Support - Chisholm
Chisholm is hiring a Team leader to lead our delivery of Equitable Learning and Disability Support Services offered to our students.
This position is accountable for leading the provision of Equitable Learning & Disability Support (ELDS) at Chisholm, with the aim of supporting students with a disability, long-term illness and/or mental health condition to participate equitably in their academic pursuits.
You will be a key and active participant of the Student Support and Engagement team and provides expertise to colleagues across the organisation, students and external support service providers.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate day to day operations of the Equitable Learning and Disability Support (ELDS) team across multiple campuses and service channels.
- Coordinate the provision of equitable learning and disability support across numerous channels and via numerous modes of delivery including drop in sessions, appointments, class talks, presentations, workshops and online resource creation.
- Mentor, coach, monitor and support team members and staff to apply best practice methods and support to students with a disability, long-term illness and/or mental health condition.
- Maintain an effective referral network to support practitioner knowledge and meet student needs.
- Assist students with a disability, long-term illness and/or mental health condition and primary carers by recommending reasonable adjustments which aim to provide equitable/inclusive access.
- Provide teaching areas with informal professional development and suggest strategies which will enhance Chisholm’s capacity to respond ethically and appropriately to the learning needs of students with disability, long-term illness and/or mental health conditions
- Ensure the Equitable Learning and Disability Support team maintains strong and positive stakeholder relationships with education departments and other services
About You
You are a highly motivated individual with a degree and/or postgraduate qualification within the disability field with relevant employment experience.
You will also have:
- Knowledge, understanding and experience of working with relevant Commonwealth and State legislation, particularly the Disability Discrimination Act (Commonwealth) and the Equal Opportunity Act (Victoria)
- Experience leading, motivating, supporting and developing a team to deliver high quality services.
- Demonstrated ability to interact sensitively with students experiencing a wide range of challenges, stress and anxiety in relation to their studies, and experience in managing the needs to equity cohorts including disability and mental health.
- Strong understanding of available assistive technology programs and software to support the equitable learning experience of students with a disability, long-term illness and/or mental health condition.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with clear focus on written and in person communication skills and experience in complaint management.
