ADCET Webinar: Access for All - Championing Accessibility in the University Context

For this ADCET webinar, we are delighted to have Dr Agata Mrva-Montoya and Julie Ganner present for us.

Agata and Julie will examine the roles of librarians, disability staff and educators in implementing accessibility in the university context. They will discuss proactive communication with publishers and academics about accessibility, as well as planning and writing with accessibility in mind. The presentation will delve into the importance of accessible formats and image descriptions (alt text) for authors, and accessible design considerations for educators. It will conclude with an overview of tools and platforms that support accessibility, providing attendees with a broad understanding of their role in fostering an inclusive university environment.

Photo of Dr Agata Mrva Montoya

Dr Agata Mrva-Montoya is a lecturer and degree director of Master of Publishing at the University of Sydney. She is a publishing researcher, teacher and professional with more than 15 years of industry experience. Previously she worked at Sydney University Press, where she led the implementation of accessible publishing practices. She is a member of the Australian Inclusive Publishing Initiative and the Executive Committee of the Round Table for People with Print Disabilities. She is co-author of Books without barriers: a practical guide to inclusive publishing (2023).

Julie Ganner AE has over 30 years’ experience in book editing and editorial and production management, specialising in educational publishing. She established the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) Accessibility Initiative and is IPEd’s representative to the Australian Inclusive Publishing Initiative, a cross-industry forum on print accessibility. Julie has delivered a range of presentations and workshops on inclusive publishing and editing for accessibility for writers, editors and publishers. She is co-author of Inclusive publishing in Australia: an introductory guide (2019) and Books without barriers: a practical guide to inclusive publishing (2023).
