Information Access: Making information accessible to as wide an audience as possible

There are a number of measures that can be taken to ensure that information is available to people with print disabilities

  • Prepare as much information as possible in electronic format - this makes it much easier to produce materials in accessible formats and allows users with disabilities to adapt the information to a format which is suitable for them.
  • Ensure that web based information is fully accessible by following Web Design Guidelines.
  • Follow print based materials guidelines to maximise accessibility.
  • Provide information in alternative formats on request and state this in any materials or publicity. 
  • Use Plain English to enhance readability.
  • Use inclusive and non-discriminatory language.
  • Include a welcoming statement to people with disabilities inviting them to approach you for further information.
  • Provide a reference to disability support services that are available and encourage them to identify any additional needs that they may have.
  • Include images of people with disabilities in promotional material.
