Webinar: New and under-used strategies for accessible graphics in higher education

This webinar was hosted by ADCET and the Australian Tertiary Education Network on Disability (ATEND) in March, 2017. The presenter was Leona Holloway.

As part of a two year project, Leona Holloway and her project team worked closely with vision impaired students in higher education, disability advisors, academics and accessible formats producers. They found evidence that vision impaired students are missing out on important information conveyed in graphics and that this is affecting their education experience and their choice of study and career paths. Through a series of pilot studies, they explored a wide range of strategies to improve this situation, with a strong focus on practical implementation. In this webinar, they will draw from their findings to offer insight on:

  • identifying which graphics need to be made accessible
  • new technologies that students can use to gain independent access to graphics
  • choosing the most suitable techniques and technologies to make graphics accessible
  • resources to help implement solutions
