Information Access: Where can I find electronic versions of text books?

The Copyright Act 1968 provides for a special copying licence for institutions assisting people with disabilities.  All universities, TAFEs and most schools are coverered by the licence. This licence allows such institutions to make sound recordings, Braille versions, large-print versions, translations and photographic/picture versions of copyright works under certain conditions without infringing the copyright owner’s rights .

The Copyright Agency Limited, select the licensing link on the left hand menu for  a searchable catalogue of master copies  of materials copied under this license free of charge. Only institutions eligible for copying under the statutory licences for institutions assisting people with disabilities may register to use this catalogue.

Project Gutenberg is the oldest producer of free electronic books (eBooks or etexts) on the Internet. Their collection of more than 12.000 eBooks was produced by hundreds of volunteers.
