Partnerships for Social Inclusion: Call for Papers [new]

The Centre for Public Policy will be hosting a conference on the topic of Partnerships for Social Inclusion in October, 2008 in Melbourne, Australia. Until July 31, the conference partners invite you to offer a paper or presentation for consideration.



Government to improve Disability Discrimination System [new]

The Rudd Government will introduce legislative amendments to the Disability Discrimination Act in the Spring sittings of Parliament to implement recommendations made by the Productivity Commission in its 2004 review of the Act.

More children suffer from an innate condition that renders them incapable of understanding arithmetic and numbers than those who suffer dyslexia or "word blindness", according to a study of 1,500 school pupils.

Survey for students with disabilities and the VET sector

The National Vocational Education and Training (VET) Disability Advisory Taskforce (NVDAT) is conducting a feasibility study on the efficacy of developing a Study Access web site to provide a one-stop-shop to improve access to vocational education and training for people with a disability.

Disability convention comes into force

Australia's Human Rights Commissioner Graeme Innes has welcomed the coming into force of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Convention was ratified by 20 UN members on 3 April 2008, and came into force 30 days after that date.
