The National Disability Coordination Officer (NDCO) Program in South Australia is provided in partnership with the University of South Australia’s Centre for Regional Engagement and TAFE SA.
There are 3 NDCOs in SA and the program has statewide coverage.
The NDCOs can provide information, coordination and referral activities for people with a disability. They will also:
- Assist local education providers to provide better services for people with a disability including helping to develop transition plans for students with disabilities and linking support staff with appropriate services
- Provide information to individuals with a disability
- Link individuals and organisations to local support services
- Raise awareness amongst education providers and the general public of the issues facing people with a disability.
NDCOs can also work to support students gain access to and succeed in further education and training who might not otherwise qualify for traditional school-based Special Education services. These include students with mental health issues, students with chronic illnesses such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, students who have mild Aspergers and students with most learning difficulties.
If you are working with students who could benefit from support with transition planning, or if you would like to know more about what supports are available to you or someone you know, we encourage you to contact your regional NDCO.
