Mature Study

Curtin University of Technology is Western Australia's largest university with over 31,000 students. The university is a world-class and internationally focused institution whose programs centre around the provision of knowledge and skills to meet industry and workplace standards. The university's main campus is situated in Bentley, six kilometres south from the centre of Perth. Curtin also has regional campuses in Kalgoorlie and Northam and an offshore campus in Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia. Curtin offers over 850 undergraduate and postgraduate courses in business, engineering, health sciences, humanities, science, mining and agriculture.

To be eligible to attend Curtin University of Technology applicants must meet at least one of the minimum admission requirements and be selected for enrolment in competition with other applicants. Program intakes are determined by the number of places available and the number of eligible applicants seeking entry to those programs. Entry into Curtin is based on year 12 results, prior tertiary study and the Special Tertiary Admissions Test  (STAT). In addition to the minimum admission requirements some courses take into account other criteria such as an audition or portfolio.

Curtin recognises formal and non formal qualifications as well as personal attributes in the application process. Mature age applicants can apply for Curtin courses based on their life and work experience instead of their schooling results. The Special Tertiary Admissions Test  (STAT) is also used as the basis of admission for applicants who have no year 12 tertiary or post secondary qualifications. Applicants who believe they warrant special consideration due to extraordinary circumstances should contact the University Admission Centre to find out more about applying for special consideration. It is recommended that applicants have details of their special circumstances prepared at the time of enquiry. Special consideration may cover a wide range of circumstances such as being disadvantaged in your education by a disability or long term illness. The Curtin University of Technology Disability Service provides a range of services to students with disabilities. Disability staff also provide advice and assistance to university staff in meeting the needs of students with disabilities. Examples of the disability services provided by the university include:

If you need financial assistance you may be eligible for assistance through the Student Loan Fund. This scheme provides short term financial assistance to Curtin students. Assistance is available for students who are experiencing unexpected financial hardship that is adversely affecting their education. Loans may be granted for one off emergency expenses related to excessive costs of texts and essential course consumables. Further information can be obtained from Curtin website.
