If you don't have the presumed knowledge for a course that you are interested
in studying bridging programs, introductory and preparatory courses are an
excellent way to obtain this knowledge. These courses and programs are run by
most university and TAFE institutes in addition
to some private RTOs. They enable future tertiary students to obtain or refresh their
knowledge on specific topics or subjects they need to know as a pre requisite to
undertaking their course of study.
Preparation, introductory and bridging courses may be run as short courses or
take one full year to complete. Examples of these courses include maths,
science, Australian History and statistics. These courses also enable future
students to prepare for entrance into tertiary studies as they offer essential
study skills topics such as assignment writing, research, computer skills and
numeracy.
Some universities run Foundation
or University Studies courses that are specifically designed for students who
have experienced educational disadvantage, who wish to return to study after a
significant absence or lack the formal qualifications to enter university.
