Student Nurses with a Disability

The DDA makes it clear that as long as the student is able to complete the requirements of the nursing course they should not be excluded on the basis that they may not be able to gain employment when they graduate.

Exceptional nurse (US) web site is committed to inclusion of more people with disabilities in the nursing profession. By sharing information and resources, Exceptional nurse hopes to facilitate inclusion of students with disabilities in nursing education programs and foster resilience and continued practice for nurses who are, or become, disabled.

There is information available relating to nursing covering a range of groups including;

  • Students with a disability considering a nursing career;
  • Nursing student with a disability;
  • Nurses with a disability; and
  • Nursing educator or a guidance counselor working with a student with a disability.

The Association of Medical Professionals with hearing loss (AMPHL) US provides information for those with hearing loss interested in or working in health care fields.  AMPHL specifically targets those with degrees in professional health care fields such as physicians, veterinarians, dentists, nurses, physician’s assistants, technicians, audiologists, therapists, as well as students from these respective fields.
