Case Studies - Introductory comment
While the following case studies deal explicitly with students with a
disability, it must be noted that there are many obstacles that students in
general face which do not fall under the rubric of disability, and which
also impair, either permanently or temporarily, their capacity to
participate fully in their course of study. Many of these difficulties will
respond to the same strategies as those described here.
This suggests that the appropriate approach is one that focuses on
flexibility and inclusiveness, underpinned by the principle that all those
with the capacity to undertake tertiary education have the right to be
catered for by the system. The need for singling out groups as being outside
the 'norm' and in need of 'special' provision is thus obviated.
The information in the case studies appears as it was recorded in the
interview. The opinions and comments reported are those of the staff member.
